Duty Responsibilities

Remain in the residential area during the duration of duty

Wear a residence life polo and given name tag

Check-in with the Professional staff member on duty by texting the Professional Staff Duty Phone [978.423.6984] between 6:30pm and 6:45 pm from the Building Duty Phone.

When sending the text message, please use the following format: “S/RA [Preferred First & Last Name] on call for [Hall.]”:

Complete scheduled rounds of the residential area, per the guidelines listed in the “Rounds” section below.

S/RAs should remain in the GFL between the hours of 8:00pm – 12:00am, when on call and not completing a scheduled round.

Contact Pro-Staff on duty about emergency situations, facilities concerns, and unusual circumstances in the building. Document these events with an IR and/or work order in the Duty Log.

When in doubt, call Pro-Staff on duty. It is better to over inform than under inform.

All IR’s should be submitted via Maxient

S/RAs are prohibited from being on duty while impaired in any way –this includes being under the influence of any alcohol, drugs, or medication that may impair judgment 12 hours or less by the start of a duty shift. Being on duty under these conditions may result in disciplinary action and/or termination.

While on call S/RAs are not permitted to have guests or visitors signed into the hall

Rounds are to completed by and with on-call residence life staff only
Expectations While Conducting Rounds

Sunday – Wednesday, 3 rounds occurring between 7:00pm and 1:00am, with the final round beginning at 12:30am.

Thursday – Saturday, 4 rounds occurring between 7:00pm and 2:00am, with the final round beginning at 1:30am.

S/RAs should facilitate additional rounds based on the needs of the community.

Tips for conducting rounds:

Inspect the physical status of the residential area, ensuring that any damages or maintenance issues are logged, per the following guidelines:

Check all fire apparatus (fire extinguishers, pull stations, smoke detectors) for damages or problems. Report any issues to Pro-Staff immediately.

Check public areas, including the laundry room, vending machines, lounges, stairwells, elevators, and bathrooms.
-
Ensure all washing machines are opened to prevent unpleasant odor.
-
Any laundry or vending issues should be reported to Professional Staff of your hall for follow up with vendor. Please post signage to inform community.

Examine the physical structure and fixtures of the building for damage, including exit signs, windows, doors, and ceiling tiles
-
Complete applicable work orders for any facilities issues your observe or that are brought to your attention, ensure the confirmation numbers are recorded in your duty log. Report any urgent issues to Pro-Staff immediately.

Engage with the community by interacting with all residents during rounds.

Please ensure all residential interactions are logged in your duty log; a small interaction can be important to professional staff later on.

Address all policy violations encountered and document via the guidelines provided by Community Standards.
